Becoming a Toastmaster entitles each of us to receive professional quality material designed to help us improve our communication and leadership skills either free of charge or at reasonable cost.

A new member will receive a Communication and Leadership manual, a monthly Toastmasters International magazine, and a chance to participate in almost 50 club meetings each and every year.  As a Toastmaster, you will be invited to a number of conferences and seminars to help you improve in many facets of your life.  Toastmasters clubs can be found all over the world.  When you travel, you can visit one if you would like.  If life's journeys call for you to move away from Kingsport, you can transfer your membership.

Unlike some well-known adult education courses, Toastmasters offers some key advantages:

Course

Toastmasters

"It's a course":
"It's a club":

Have instructors
Everyone is equal, from you, our guest, to our most experienced member, we learn from each other. Officers and members work together to make the club better, and everyone has an opportunity to take part.

Have tests
We have speech projects, meeting roles, contests, other activities, but no "tests."

Have grades
We have evaluations, suggestions, feedback, but no grades.  Members get a sense for their own evelopment. No one has ever "failed" in Toastmasters.

Penalize students for missing
We allow members to attend as often as they can.  We realize that our personal and business life may take us out of town occasionally.  Naturally, the more often we attend, the more skilled we become, but we set our own pace.

End on a certain date
Members stay as long as they like.  We have members who have been Toastmasters for years, because we have programs designed to last a lifetime.

Focus only on "Communication"
"Emphasize improving our “Communication" and our "Leadership" skills.  We work on "speaking," "listening”, "motivating," "inspiring," and many other qualities.

Tend to be expensive
Considered very affordable. Your firstyear will be $82 or less, and after that, it's just $62 a year.  Toastmasters International also offers materials to help develop communication and leadership skills at attractive prices.

Do not allow you to participate.
We allow you to visit ... and take part until you commit (if you'd like) ... until you're ready to join us.

Club / Area / Division / District / Region / International

Toastmasters International is divided into different geographical regions.  Regions consist of several Districts. A District is a group of Divisions.  Combining Areas makes a Division.  An Area consists of a few clubs.

Wednesday Orators is in Region 5, District 63, Division A, Area 10
